Seal

Elsie the Arctic Seal is a favourite with young children, who are allowed to stroke her soft fur, and even take moderate amounts of it home with them as it comes off in their hands.

She was found abandoned on the shore near the Power Station along with the rest of her brothers and sisters. Of the litter, Elsie was the only one with a nose, and so she was adopted by Zoo staff.

Her diet is mainly ground-up fish, fed to her through a recently-discovered opening in her abdomen, as she is unable to chew her food properly, lacking as she does a lower jaw or tongue.
